Zombie Highway: A Driving Game…With Zombies

If there’s anything we learned from the App Store, it’s that there are innumerable ways to enjoy a zombie infestation.  Joining the iPhone’s endless stream of undead treatments is Zombie Highway, a violently-amusing driving game with zombies galore.

You spend the game driving around post-apocalypse America in a car.  Instead of racing other drivers or avoiding obstacles, though, your goal is to just step on the gas, while zombies pop up from all over trying to stop you.

In Zombie Highway, you get seven varieties of the undead – from the skinny, underpowered ones to health-generating hulking types.  Evading them is easier said than done, as the mutants will literally work their asses off, trying to tip your car over.  They’ll cling on to your vehicle, pilling in numbers, until you either manage to get them off or your car eventually topples to the side.

You can get rid of zombies by sideswiping them onto the many wrecked cars that litter the highway.  It takes more than one hit, though, as each zombie has its own health bar.  Fortunately, you’ve got an arms dealer friend riding with you, so you can use his stash of weapons to further damage your assailants.  New weapons are gradually unlocked the more you play.

Three things really stand out in the game: brilliant driving physics, aggressive zombie enemies and very crisp 3D graphics.  On the downside, sound effects are nearly non-existent – you’ll likely just have as much enjoyment if you mute the damn game.

Overall, Zombie Highway makes for an addicting experience.  There’s not much beyond the simple premise, but the execution is really engaging.  You can get it from the App Store for 99 cents.

Android and iPhone Cross Platform Multiplayer Enabled Thanks to Skies of Glory

Although there are tittles out there like Raging Thunder 2 and Homerun Battle 3D that allow iPhone owners to join Android users in gaming sessions, this new title is a bomb. We’re talking about SGN’s Skies of Glory, that gets shown in action at the end of the article.

Skies of Glory is an aerial dogfighting game, that has recently been ported to Android (2.0 and above), being able to communicate with iOS device via WiFi, Bluetooth or 3G.

Volkswagen Think Blue Challenge Is A Driving Game That Makes You Drive…Economically?

Here’s a game I never saw coming: a driving title where you’re supposed to drive like a vigilant hypermiler. Yep, that’s exactly what the unholy union of Volkswagen and Fish Labs turned out with the Volkswagen Think Blue Challenge, a game where the goal is make every last drop of your fuel count. Here’s something even crazier – it’s quite entertaining.

While the premise sounds silly, the challenge is not. It’s one thing to delude yourself about your eco-friendly driving abilities when you’re on the road. When you’ve got just a small amount of fuel to make it through checkpoints, though, it becomes a…gasp…game.

In Think Blue, you start the game with a small amount of gas and drive from one checkpoint to the next, getting a small amount of extra fuel for every one you clear. You complete checkpoints by correctly answering a question about efficient driving. Don’t worry, if you drive even a little bit, you probably know the answers.

Once you’ve finished all checkpoints, you then begin driving your car on the open road. Make sure you apply every fuel efficiency trick up your sleeve, from coasting down slopes to managing your throttle to taking turns intelligently, allowing the vehicle to cover as much ground as possible before your tank goes empty. The game does help you out, suggesting how to maximize whatever’s in your tank, going so far as to explain why each technique works. You will eventually run out of gas and when you do, the game submits how far you’ve driven to the online leaderboards, where you can see how you fare among the mass of iPhone-toting hypermilers around the world.

Volkswagen Think Blue Challenge is built upon the same engine as Fish Labs’ Rally Master Pro 3D, so the graphics and the mechanics are all awesome. While it’s not going to be the most exciting game in your library, it is quite addicting, especially once you see how far the top performers have gotten. Plus, you might even learn a new thing or two about technical driving. You can download the game for free from the App Store.

Gunman is the first augmented reality game for the iPhone 3GS!

A company called Shadowforce is out with its first product, which takes augmented reality to the next level. The application is called Gunman and it’s the first AR laser tag first-person shooter game that doesn’t require people to carry around any special equipment other than their iPhone 3GS. Of course, the idea is play against your friends (up to 4 people can play) when your iPhones are connected via WiFi.

Once someone is hit, its phone will buzz and you get to save the screenshot of a target. Moreover, players can play for rank on the Playgunman website, track all of their favorite hits, and tweet out their favorite shots.

Of course, if there are no other iPhone users around, you can go solo by collecting bounties on celebrities appearing on the Gunman “Hit List,” which includes such names as Ashton Kutcher, MC Hammer, Shaq, and 50 Cent. In addition, Shadowforce says this is only the beginning, as the game will receive regular updates such as team-based tactical missions (like capture the flag mode), an arsenal of new weapons, an international leaderboard, and more.

You can grab Gunman from the AppStore for 99 cents.
