WorldLenns iPhone 3GS app allows users to tag the world; Connect with other “taggers”

The New York City-based QderoPateo launched a new augmented reality, social networking application for the iPhone 3GS (and I guess the iPhone 4) called WorldLenns. Touted by MobileMarketingWatch as “Foursquare on steroids,” it allows users to “tag the world.” As you walk around the city, event or wherever you happen to be, start WorldLenns and leave your two cents about that place. Don’t want to write – feel free to leave a photo!

Then, once other app users are around they’ll see someone has left a note/photo which they can read and/or leave their own comment or photo. And this is how users connect via WorldLenns.

This process of tagging, QderoPateo calls space SpaceTagging which creates a user-generated content database that is accessible for the other users. The content can be filtered by channel and by a radius distance of a specific location.

Finally, and this is how the company plans to make some money. In addition to the end-user features, WorldLenns also provides opportunities for consumer brands, sponsors, artists and entertainers.

Gunman is the first augmented reality game for the iPhone 3GS!

A company called Shadowforce is out with its first product, which takes augmented reality to the next level. The application is called Gunman and it’s the first AR laser tag first-person shooter game that doesn’t require people to carry around any special equipment other than their iPhone 3GS. Of course, the idea is play against your friends (up to 4 people can play) when your iPhones are connected via WiFi.

Once someone is hit, its phone will buzz and you get to save the screenshot of a target. Moreover, players can play for rank on the Playgunman website, track all of their favorite hits, and tweet out their favorite shots.

Of course, if there are no other iPhone users around, you can go solo by collecting bounties on celebrities appearing on the Gunman “Hit List,” which includes such names as Ashton Kutcher, MC Hammer, Shaq, and 50 Cent. In addition, Shadowforce says this is only the beginning, as the game will receive regular updates such as team-based tactical missions (like capture the flag mode), an arsenal of new weapons, an international leaderboard, and more.

You can grab Gunman from the AppStore for 99 cents.

Windows Mobile’s First Augmented Reality App Points to Cities Far Away

Up until now, Android and iPhone have hogged all of the augmented reality glory, but Windows Mobile is starting to get a taste of the action too. Korean developer HyongaSoft has cooked up ompass World Cities, which primarily points you in the direction of select cities, and, once you’re in them, points of interest like restaurants and theatres. They’re showing ompass working on the omnia II – all the information you need is overlaid on top of what the camera is seeing, and adjusts based on your direction using the internal digital compass.
