ITG xpPhone gets Windows 7, 5MP camera and 120GB storage

xpphone-new550-30-10-2009

The ITG xpPhone is going to come in more than one flavor. The future users will be able to pick the OS, CPU, storage and RAM memory as well as the display to create a device that suits their needs the best.

The handset will be available with Windows XP, MS DOS or Windows 7 (there goes the nice name) OS and AMD Super Mobile CPU. The options for the CPU speed are over and under 1GHz but the manufacturer doesn’t quote exact numbers.

The storage memory ranges from 8GB SSD to 120 GB HDD and the RAM will be 512MB, 1GB or 2GB. There will also be three different versions of the touchscreen LCD – 4.3”, 4.7” and 7” with resolution of either 800 x 480 or 1024 x 600 pixels.

Finally, the users will be able to pick between VGA, 1.3 MP, 3MP and 5MP for the xpPhone’s camera. WiMax connectivity can also be added to the 2G and 3G GSM and CDMA-enabled phone.

There isn’t information about the exact pricing of the device just yet but the form for pre-order is already available at the company’s website.

ViewSonic VPC08 keeps Windows XP, clamshell style alive

vs1

The xpPhone isn’t even out yet and already it has competition. ViewSonic has announced its own take on the idea of a phone with Windows XP as the OS, in the form of the VPC08. With an Intel ULV processor, half a gigabyte of RAM, and 8GB of storage, it has just about enough to let you run XP productively, and once you open up the clamshell casing you’ll find a 4.3-inch display and a full QWERTY keyboard to do it with. The outside is adorned with a 2 megapixel camera, plus a 2-inch screen and numeric keypad for your old school phone needs. An asking price of $800 and what we suspect to be pretty atrocious battery life will likely be the biggest hindrances on this device’s path to respectability, but all the same, we totally wanna play with one. You should mosey on past the break to find a picture of the retro-looking externals.

Sagemcom Spiga, a Modern UMPC Ready to hit Vodafone

Sagem-Spiga-2

Sagem is not a buried brand after all, since it’s been reborn as Sagemcom and it has launched the Spiga handset, a combo between a phone and an UMPC. Some may call this “the smallest PC in the world” and the device is expected to hit Vodafone soon.

Spiga measures 16 cm in length, 9.4 cm in width, it’s under 2 cm thick and it packs a 4.8 inch display. The UMPC runs Windows XP thanks to an Intel Atom 1.1 GHz CPU and it also comes with support for WiFi and 3G connectivity. A 24GB SSD is also on board, together with a card reader with support for cards of up to 16GB.

The product is available in Turkey right now, via Vodafone, retailing for 499 euros and we really wonder if this product will be able to rival Nokia’s 3G Booklet, going for 700 euros?

Chinese xpPhone Will Hit Markets Soon

xphone2

China-based In Technology Group (ITG) has announced its latest contraption, the absolutely whacky xpPhone, which is all set to go on sale soon.

The fully functional 3G phone does not just bring PC like functionality to the phone. It is a PC complete with an AMD Processor and Windows XP as the Operating System. The xpPhone boasts of a massive 4.8-inch touchscreen display with a full QWERTY keyboard and has 1GB of RAM to run all your applications. With a colossal 120GB hard disk, you will never run out of space on this one – should you use it like a phone, of course! While the specs might be impressive for a cellphone, if it were a PC, it would have been an outdated slob. But then, it isn’t one!

Other features include a pretty rudimentary 1.3 megapixel camera. We don’t need to go on much about the multimedia capability of this one – especially if you happen to be used to Windows XP. The phone boasts of a comprehensive network support with both GSM and CDMA chips inside – and there’s HSDPA and HSUPA support as well! Other features include GPS navigation, an USB and VGA port. The xpPhone offers 5 hours of talk time and 5 days of standby time.

While the device is available on pre-order, the company hasn’t revealed the price of this wonder.
